With Bishop Auckland as a youth Newcastle born Barnwell split his 13 year pro career between Arsenal and Nottm Forest before undertaking a brief final stop at Sheffield United in 1970. John's managerial CV saw him in charge at Peterborough, Wolves, AEK Athens, Notts County, Walsall and Northampton |
A fourth stop for The Shirt brings a meeting with former Red Frank Clark.
Starting out at Crook Town in 1961 Frank went on to play nearly 400 league games for Newcastle before joining Forest in 1975 for another 100+ more. His last competitive game was the 1-0 defeat of Malmo in the 1979 European Cup final. The last surviving player from Forest's 1959 Cup win Jeff Whitefoot has become the 5th member of our exclusive "Club"
Midfielder Whitefoot spent seven years at Old Trafford (making his debut at just 16) leaving United just months before the Munich disaster. There followed a brief spell at Grimsby before joining the Trees in 1958. Cheadle born Jeff's nine year stay at the City Ground saw him make 285 appearances for the club....the FA Cup triumph earned him a 12th share in the players prize pool of £1,250 |
